How to play the digital alliance, from the digital side
Digital ally: A digital alliance is a way for businesses and institutions to share resources and data online without the need for a physical presence.
The goal is to provide the same level of transparency, security, and accountability that the physical alliance brings.
“If you’re not in a physical environment, you can’t have that level of accountability,” says digital advocate Mark Z. Allen.
For instance, there’s a reason why most companies that want to open their doors to the public will only do so in partnership with partners.
But in the digital world, the digital space is ripe for a collaboration between companies and organizations.
In some cases, it’s not even necessary to work together.
In other cases, the same kind of collaboration could take place via a private group of people.
The key to digital alliances, Allen explains, is that they can bring people together to collaborate, even if they’re not the same company or the same organization.
“It’s very much about creating a shared vision of what the digital future looks like, what the challenges are, what needs to be done, and what the rewards are,” Allen says.
Allen is part of the Digital Alliance Coalition, a group of businesses and organizations that are creating an ecosystem around the Digital Leadership Alliance.
“We want to be the digital backbone of the economy, but we’re also going to be a digital partner to the economy in other ways,” he says.
“It’s really important for us to be in that ecosystem, but also to work with other businesses and non-profits that can do the same thing.”
The Digital Alliance initiative in partnership with Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and other tech companies has been going on for years, but it’s been largely unknown to the general public.
It’s been dubbed a digital-first approach to business, and it’s also a way to better integrate the digital assets of a company with those of a third party.
For instance: When Facebook opened a Google Store, it offered the same amount of services as a physical store, but without the physical store.
If you went to a grocery store and used Google Maps, you’d get directions, but you’d also see a virtual store with all the food and products you would need to purchase.
Similarly, Microsoft launched the Microsoft Store, which offers a complete ecosystem of apps and services for business and home users.
It has a cloud platform that’s used by millions of users around the world.
“We’re also talking about a lot of different kinds of partnerships, including social, physical, and the cloud,” Allen said.
“And then there’s also more and more partnerships like that.”
To understand how the Digital Allies are bringing together various stakeholders, ESPN Cri, the Digital Strategy Group, Digital Allies, and Digital Alliance Council have all created an infographic called The Digital Allies Handbook.
It’s an invaluable resource for any business or non-profit interested in becoming part of this new digital alliance.
While the Digital alliance initiative isn’t yet publicly available, Allen says the first step is to gather as much data as possible, to ensure the digital infrastructure is up to date.
And the Digital allies initiative is just the beginning.
They’re also looking to add more partnerships to the list.
There are now plans to partner with companies such as Amazon, Netflix, and Microsoft to bring more services and services to the Amazon Prime store.
And Apple has teamed up with Facebook and Microsoft in an effort to make their iCloud cloud services more accessible to businesses.
“These are just a few examples of what’s possible if we keep doing what we’re doing,” Allen adds.
